A change in the chewing mode of your pet could be a major sign. Watch closely. Is your pet easily dropping its food or is it chewing with one part of its mouth? A dental problem could be the cause of these actions. Another sign of a mouth related problem to watch out for is bad breath or excessive face rubbing. Doing a routine dental check up is very important to prevent and or treat these issues.

Another clue to watch out for is drastic weight gain or loss. When your pet is in pain, its eating habit would likely be affected and its weight is likely going to be affected too. Another thing is this. If your pet is carrying around excess weight, they are more likely to damage a joint or tear a ligament. Your pet may not be too enthusiastic to access their food if it has arthritis or muscle soreness and finds bending over to access its food uncomfortable. If your pet has arthritis pain and its eating habit remains the same, then it is likely to add weight as a result of lack of exercise. Your pet can also lose weight if pain causes it to lose appetite.
